Humboldt Forum – IN_FINITE
Installation for the exhibition IN_FINITE Living with Death
”Humans are probably the only living beings that know about their mortality.” Based on this statement, curator Detlef Vögeli and his team created an impressive and unusual exhibition for the Humboldt Forum in Berlin. The visitors are taken on a journey to their own transience, they experience their death and learn what happens to their body afterwards. The last act of the exhibition refers to the transience of all life and the extinction of species. A large-scale video installation by Georg Lendorff celebrates the life of microbes and fungi. Organisms that coexist in our bodies, feed on us as we decompose and are expected to outlive humanity by millions of years.
By projecting onto layers of coarse-meshed and highly transparent fabric, an image cloud is created. The light rays penetrate deep into the material and create an organically shimmering spatial image. This installation was created in close collaboration between Georg Lendorff and the renowned London scenographer Tom Piper.
An exhibition like this has never been seen in Berlin before!
