Burgtheater Wien – Bérénice de Molière
by Igor Bauersima and Réjane Desvignes
Bérénice de Molière is a brash and vital comedy situated in 1670 Paris. Based on historical facts, Bauersima and Desvignes develop a refined intrigue leading to a confrontation between the established author Corneille and the young upstart Racine in a literary contest.
Aside from some props, the stage design consists exclusively of ten transparent lengths of material serving as suspended mobile projection surfaces. A system of rails and motors enable repositioning the material in free formations.
A sophisticated yet elegant, smart and innovative solution for which Georg Lendorff and Igor Bauersima were nominated for the Nestroy Theatre Award 2004.
By applying projections (video: Georg Lendorff), Bauersima creates an aesthetically perfect baroque world on stage, in which the actors, wearing courtly costumes and full-bottomed wigs (costumes: Johanna Lakner) promenade through the royal garden or along the streets of Paris.
An exceptional, strange and highly acclaimed evening.
